Cork South-Central TD Simon Coveney has welcomed the €2,068,000 funding announced for local Cork roads in 2018 and 2019 by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport. The Tánaiste said, “This scheme is to fund those small local and regional roads and pavements that can often be the last piece of the puzzle in opening up proper access for communities.” The scheme will see €900,000 in funding for Cork for the remainder of 2018 and €1,168,000 for 2019.
Simon Coveney added, “The fact that the Department has granted all of the funds requested for Cork for 2018 and 2019 means the business cases for these roads was strong and well put together. We now need to insure the plans for the roads to be laid in 2018 are submitted on time.” The government has written to councils and the plans for 2018 projects must be submitted by the end of June.
